Muslims and Christians Celebrate America’s Independence Day

Second Interfaith Independence Day

Pleasant Mound-Urban Park United Methodist Church and Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Dallas Chapter, have joined hands to celebrate Interfaith Independence Day second time in a row.  The event will reflect on the difficult path of achieving freedom and justice for all, that nation had gone through for past two hundred years. It is a unique opportunity for people of different faiths to come together as one people guided by God to commemorate the sacrifices that men and women in uniform are making while they protect the American nation and its principles of freedom.  The celebration also highlights the importance of America as a multi-cultural nation where people must live with and understand one another. About Pleasant Mound-Urban Park United Methodist Church:

Pleasant Mound-Urban Park United Methodist Church is an outgrowth of a worshipping community dating back to 1842. During the Civil War a one room log cabin was built on Buckner near the Scyene community to serve as a meeting place for church and a community school. Between 1876 and 1881, a second church building was built with Rev. J.R. Masters as preacher and teacher. Father Buckner from the Buckner Orphans Home attended Pleasant Mound and brought children to the school. In 1894, the second building was sold and in 1895, the new church was built at Scyene and Buckner. This building was sold in 1953 and the new church was built at Bruton Road and Pleasant Drive. The first service in the current location was held May 23, 1954. Pleasant Mound and Urban Park United Methodist Churches merged in 1996.

In the 21st century, PMUP continues to serve the Pleasant Grove community as a worship center, educational complex, and community outreach center. From 1842 until present day, our goal is partnering to transform the community for Jesus Christ, one family at a time. To God be the Glory

About Ahmadiyya Muslim Community:

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, reformist and fast-growing international movement within Islam. Founded in 1889, the Community spans more than 195 countries with membership exceeding tens of millions. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, established in 1920, is the first American-Muslim organization.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to believe that the long- awaited messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) of Qadian, India. Ahmad claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Jesus of Nazareth and the divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad. The Community believes that God sent Ahmad, like Jesus, to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and reinstitute morality, justice and peace. Ahmad’s advent has brought about an unprecedented era of Islamic revival and moderation. He divested Muslims of fanatical beliefs and practices by vigorously championing Islam’s true and essential teachings.
