Youth & Government is a YMCA program that has been in Texas for over 65 years. The mission of Youth & Government is “to help teenagers become responsible citizens and future leaders of the nation.” The students achieve this by increasing their political awareness through hands-on learning. Throughout the year, they will learn about different aspects of the government, including Judicial, Legislative, Media and Model United Nations, then they will apply it in district and state conferences.
Once a year, the students will be able to “take over” the Capitol and present what they have learned in front of their peers from all over the state. Not only does this program help students gain political awareness, but it also increases public speaking and leadership skills.
